How Library Class Works

Welcome to the library! Here, we explore books, grow as thinkers, and care for a shared space that belongs to all of us. You’ll see a grade on your report card based on your growth, effort, and how you use the library. Most students earn high marks when they show curiosity, care, and participate in lessons.

🔢 How You’re Graded in Library (Aligned with PPS Rubrics):

Grade	What It Looks Like
4 – Exceeds	You explore the catalog, help others, read new genres, and do more than expected without being asked. You try hard, treat the space with care, and ask great questions.
3 – Meeting	You check out books, use the catalog or ask for help, follow directions, treat books kindly, and participate respectfully.
2 – Progressing	You sometimes forget to participate or respect materials/others. You need reminders to make safe or kind choices.
1 – Below	You frequently interrupt learning, ignore directions, or refuse to engage. You need lots of reminders and support to meet expectations.

🎨 Library Routine (40-minute Class)

First: Teacher Time — read-aloud, lesson, or activity
Next: Student Time — book browsing and check-out
Then: Independent Time — read, draw, or complete activity

🚀 SPAACE in the Library
(Self-Awareness, Purpose, Agency, and Exploration)

SPAACE Value	What It Looks Like
Self-Aware	Walk in the library. Be patient. Notice how your behavior affects others.
Purpose	Return or renew books. Complete activities. Keep the library clean.
Agency	Use catalog/kiosk to search. Ask for help. Take care of materials. Report lost/damaged books.
Explore	Read mirror & window books. Try new genres. Learn about authors.

Student demonstrates leadership by maximizing the efforts of others or self, towards the achievement of a library goal.

*Working with others = Classmates, teachers, guests, experts, assistants

Mid-Level Elective Grading will be done with rubrics for assignments where the criteria will be found.
